San Cristobal de las Casas is located in the center of the State of Chiapas, 85km. Tuxtla Gutiérrez.En east of this city, one of the most beautiful in Mexico by its harmonic urban composition, discover imposing religious buildings like the Cathedral or the Temple of Santo Domingo, lined with colorful details of Baroque and indigenous manufacturing, which perpetuate the cultural heritage of ethnic Tzotzil, Tzeltal and Lacandones residing in their vicinity and who may also observe exotic collections of objects of daily use, handicrafts and prehispanic pieces sheltered in large institutions such as philanthropic tradition and anthropological museum or Na Bolom Cultural Center of Los Altos de Chiapas.
Its surroundings may be a witness to the magical atmosphere surrounding towns such as San Juan Chamula, home to one of the more colorful carnivals and tradition of the institution from which you can take a tour through areas of great natural wealth as the Ecological Reserve of Huitepec.
The city is a strategic point for tourism, leave the roads to many places frequented by tourists.
It is customary for American and European tourists in the city to plan their upcoming tour to places with ancient and modern Mayan culture. The city is located near the villages of the municipalities of Tzotzil and Chamula Zinacantán and half days to go by bus to the ruins of Palenque.

Attractions

The historic Center of San Cristobal de las Casas is without doubt one of the most beautiful country. Still retains its air village with stone benches and rest; its socket with the kiosk and the typical colonial buildings that make us feel like we were in Mexico in the eighteenth century. In each block we can witness the mix of ethnicities, races and nationalities that live in this town of Altos de Chiapas.

Casa La Sirena was built in 1529 on the orders of Captain Diego de Mazariegos in its campaign of conquest and then delivered to the Tovilla Andres, who was companion of the conqueror. The door shield is flanked by columns topped with whimsical and graceful lions top window is placed between two two-headed eagle. Another window is decorated with plaster figures of the siren or a female snake. The name of the house comes from a rough stone mermaid is on the corner facing the square.

The Cathedral of San Cristobal was built from 1528 and refurbished in early eighteenth century, the Cathedral of San Cristobal de Las Casas dedicated to the Assumption, is the most representative monuments of the city. Its first priest was Fray Bartolomé de las Casas. The interior preserves interesting art pieces, among which two beautiful Baroque altarpieces Solomon wood covered with gold leaf and paintings by the artist Juan Correa shows his style with a touch austere Baroque Mudejar details. Many treasures saved the cathedral, so it deserves a careful visit.
