
In the course of history, the famous bay of this destination has been visited by conquerors, pirates and missionaries. The first attempts to conquer the peninsula happened on May 3, 1535 when Hernán Cortés set foot on this land and he named the Bay of Santa Cruz. But the real colonization happen until 1720 when the Jesuits, with their spiritual power, bow to the people and built the mission of Nuestra Señora del Pilar de La Paz.
At present, the state capital of Baja California Sur is a beautiful destination that offers excellent recreation options, as for the practice of ecotourism activities, water sports and, sheltered by the magnificent scenery of pink sunsets.
La Paz is located in the southern part of the peninsula due to its geography, appears to lie within the end of the world. The city, drawn from east to west over the bay that bears its name, is bathed by the warm waters of the Gulf of California. Formerly listed as a place coveted by bandits and pirates legend of the sixteenth century, as Thomas Cromwell and Francis Drake, thanks to the abundance of pearls found in the vicinity.

The origin of La Paz was not far from the misfortune, as some historians believe was founded on at least 5 times the distance from that point with the rest of New Spain hindered the supply of provisions, which prevented a sustained colonial development, unlike the rest of viceroyalties grounds along Mexico by the Spaniards. Today La Paz is a coastal town wich offers a wealth of tourist attractions related to the sea, which has earned its reputation at international level thanks to sport fishing, diving, snorkeling, among many other activities conducted in its beautiful beaches. The most important are the Coromuel, El Caimancito, Pichilingue and El Tecolote, which are characterized by catering to tourists and palapas to enjoy the atmosphere and tranquility of the beach.
