Isla Mujeres is a small beautiful island located a short ferry ride from Cancun. The island is five miles long.
It is easy to get to and many people visit just for the day. If you are on the island you notice this as the island literally goes to sleep when the day visitors leave. Unlike the hustle and bustle of places like Cancun and Playa you actually see merchants closing their stores at 6:00 and going home.
The climate of Isla Mujeres is, as you might expect, perfect. The temperature is fairly consistent, hovering around 80 degrees most of the year, with the hottest months from June to August. You're on vacation, so expect rain. Seriously, unless you’re traveling during the wet season, October to November, you're likely to experience an afternoon shower or two at most.

Isla Mujeres (Island of Women) is the perfect place for a short vacation or a new place to call home. You'll soon agree as you spend your days relaxing on a powder white beach, snorkeling in the crystal blue waters or just lounging in your hammock under your favorite palapa. By night you'll dine on fabulous meals of every variety. After you've eaten your fill, there is still plenty to satisfy all interests. Take a relaxing stroll through the moonlit streets while breathing in the ocean air.
Isla Mujeres is a privileged place with a unique natural and cultural wealth in Mexico. This beautiful island combines the beauty of the Caribbean, the dense tropical jungle and the wonderful heritage of the Mayan civilization. It stands out as one of Mexico´s natural treasures, a truly delightful paradise on earth.
In addition to its beaches and the stunning natural architecture of its cliffs, Isla Mujeres has archaeological vestiges and marine parks with incredible natural reefs. Visiting Isla Mujeres is like discovering a magic world which all visitors would like to call their second home. Isla Mujeres is fascination at first sight, since no one escapes from the natural beauty of the island and the charm of the Caribbean. On Isla Mujeres, many different worlds are combined by a common factor: the genuine flavor of the Mexican Caribbean.
The traditional boat tours are a good option to discover the sites of interest of the island and surrounding areas. The boats leave all day long from the fishing cooperatives located on the main avenue, Rueda Medina.
In order to explore every corner of the island and get to know its friendly inhabitants, there is nothing like touring the island on a golf cart, moped or a bike.
Several companies offer tours to another nearby island: Contoy, a refuge for over ninety bird species and a great variety of flora and fauna.
