
The island of Holbox, whose meaning in Maya is "Black Hole" is located northeast of Cancun, and has a length of 42 km long, is separated from land by the Laguna yalahao, Holbox Island on a nearly virgin because very few tourists make stops here which makes it the ideal place to be relaxed and isolated from the stress of the city.
The site has about 500 inhabitants, mostly fishermen and shark lobster. It is a rustic site, ideal for those seeking natural paradise, away from the daily noise. There are no hotels, but it is possible to get some room and services among the villagers. The people of Holbox are mainly fishermen, but also get a boat ride to places around the island as the "island of passion", "Birds Island" which is a sanctuary for birds that are different from their nests in this island or the eye water "yalahao" in the streets of the island covered with white sand you will see the multicolored wooden houses of the inhabitants of the island.

Holbox Island is a fascinating place full of attractions, unimaginable natural beauty which provides the framework for the practice of ecotourism. Among the many activities offered by the island is very interesting boat trip through the canals and mangrove swamps with crocodiles that are the kings of the mangroves.
Lake Yalahua is what separates the mainland of Holbox Island, beautiful beaches and a village with 1,500 inhabitants, is less than what you find when visiting this island. In Holbox Island you can enjoy the most delicious seafood dishes, the fishermen of the place you delight in their restaurants. Bicycles and golf carts are the transportation within Holbox Island from June to September you can see whale sharks while enjoying the scenery. To get to Holbox, you can take a bus and then a ferry to the island. Another option is from Cancun.
