This city stands at the state and national industrial development and its major agricultural activity, livestock and trade. Therefore it has been called "The Golden Door Bajio.
The traditional industrial activity, always on a par with agricultural production, gives fame to this city since the nineteenth century stands out nationally. Alaman promoted the construction of a spinning and weaving factory, industry boom that reached the end of that century.
In agricultural activities highlights the production of sorghum, oats, forage maize, beans, chickpeas and vegetables like tomatoes and carrots. It is also important breeding cattle, goats and sheep.
A native of Celaya is the renowned architect Francisco Eduardo Tresguerras, painter, sculptor and builder. He was the promoter of the neoclassical style of the eighteenth century, whose works embellished with several cities of the Bajio Guanajuato and the surrounding states.
Celaya has comfortable and modern tourist facilities ensuring visitors a pleasant stay.

Attractions
Templo del Carmen
Neoclassical style, this work is original architect Francisco Eduardo Tresguerras and was built in 1807. Inside you will also see paintings of the artist, among which stand out "The Resurrection of Lazarus" and "Doomsday".
Convent and Church of San Francisco
This magnificent set convent is one of the largest in Mexico. It is characterized by its seventeenth century Baroque style and its facade plateresca, built between 1810 and 1820 to give visibility to the whole and also ran the Tresguerras. The temple is located to the side, was built in 1683 and was remodeled by the same architect.
House of Culture
This building was built on quarry in the seventeenth century. He served as a prison from 1863 to mid twentieth century and now houses the Casa de la Cultura de Celaya. Baroque Era but changed during remodeling to the neoclassical style.
Temple of the Third Order
A more celayense Tresguerras artist, this 1820 neoclassical building altars stand, painting the patron saint, St. Jude, and the 18 stained glass. Originally the church belonged to the Franciscan convent.
Column of Independence
This monument is very significant. Originally developed by Tresguerras to honor King Charles V in 1791, but was amended in 1823, becoming the first monument dedicated to free Mexico.
Hydraulic Tower
It is the symbol of the city and was unveiled during the centenary celebrations of the Independence of our country.
Casa Del Diezmo
Original seventeenth century, is currently the headquarters of the Delegation of Tourism. Despite being described as style "sober", doors and windows have a touch baroque. It has rooms for concerts and exhibitions, in addition to a newspaper library and municipal archives.
Museum of Mumies
Twenty-two mummified bodies are set out in the halls of this museum, which clearly explains the process of mummification. By being inside the old vault Celaya can also visit the tombs and crypts of the place.
