Puebla

Experience a wealth of culture within the charming capital of Puebla, founded in 1531. Situated in a highland valley of central Mexico, Puebla is characterized by its colorful tiled architecture. The colonial city’s central UNESCO World Heritage Site showcases historic churches, the Palafox Library, archaeological relics and various museums. Shoppers can pick up Puebla’s signature hand-painted Talavera pottery, in which Asian, Spanish and Mexican Indian influences are evident. Ample antiques can be found in the Plaza de Los Sapos.
Puebla is home to four of Mexico’s tallest volcanoes. Take advantage of a multitude of recreational opportunities including volcano climbing, camping, fishing and mountain biking. Nature lovers will be drawn to the reserve at San Baltasar Lagoon.

Once at Puebla, you can indulge in a host of pleasure activities. The city presents a fine example of colonial architecture, especially of the Portuguese style. A visit to some such sites should occupy the better part of your day. Puebla experiences summers from May to October. During this time the weather conditions are quite warm and it rains occasionally. Being at a higher elevation though, it is less humid and hot, than other regions in Mexico. Therefore, October to May being the cooler months form the best time to visit this region.

Attractions
Cathedral of Immaculate Conception
Built between 1575 and 1649 AD, this is the second largest cathedral of Mexico. The bas-relief figures of Spain's celebrated kings and its Barroque style of architecture are the biggest attractions of this unique monument.
Palafox Library
Housed in the Archdiocese Palace, this library was founded in 1646 AD, and contains a wide collection of antique books.
Rosary Chapel
One of the finest examples of Mexican Barroque style, The Rosary Chapel is covered from top to bottom in gold leaf, tiles, and woodwork. Constructed in the year 1690, it holds a special place in the architectural history of this region.
Amparo Museum
This is a modern museum that houses artefacts from the Pre-Columbian, colonial, and modern era of Mexico. It also has a great collection of books that date back to 16th and 17th century.

These apart the city has a number of museums. These are: Regional Museum, Revolution Museum, Santa Rosa Convent and Museum, and Jose Luis Bello Art Museum.
